It differs a little bit from Greece, but locals are passionate with Easter Festive. “Flaouna” is a local type of pastry which is the island’s Easter trademark. When I first visited Cyprus was Easter time and everybody was giving me a flaouna…as a gift. All cities are organizing major festivals, offering lamb and good wine. Locals have a strong hospitality culture, so you probably get invited to celebrate with them and break the red eggs, which is one of the major customs of the day. The red colour is the fertility colour and symbolizes the earth’s awakening after winter time. Contrary to Greece here the soup of the day is chicken soup with egg and lemon sauce. It’s a delicious plate especially for the late traditional dinner after the Easter Ceremony.
